Happiness is not in our circumstances, but in ourselves. It is not something we see, like a rainbow, or feel, like the heat of a fire. Happiness is something we are. ~ John B. Sheerin
I saw this quote today and thought WOW, I know when I see a beautiful sunset or rainbow it brings a smile to my face and joy. So what is happiness? A while back I wrote a blog post called What is HAPPINESS? The blog post discussed the poll results from What are the ingredients of happiness? at that point in time the poll results were Joy, Love and Peace. At this moment of writing the poll results have changed to “Joy” being number one and “Love” number two.
The definition of “Happiness” according to Merriam -Webster’s Dictionary is the following:
: the state of being happy, well-being, contentment and joy
: an experience that makes you happy, pleasurable or a satisfying experience
: good fortune
What are your happy moments?

- Do you think happiness is not in our circumstances, but in ourselves?
- Do you feel happiness is something we are?

Hi Patti,
That quote is so true. A lot of people look for happiness outside of themselves but they end up never finding it. It’s not a single thing or set of cricumstances, it’s a state of being. You can find happiness without needing much else.

Good blog post! Happiness is within us but we don’t look for it inside ourselves. We expect people/things to make us happy.
