12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life ~ Day 7~ Change Your Outlook and Change Your World

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life

Day 7 ~ Change Your Outlook and Change Your World

Do you know someone who seems to always have something great happening to them? Everything comes to them with ease.  They are well-liked, and good things fall at their feet.  Why do you think that is?  What characteristics do they have?  Are they happy? Are they kind?  Do they speak well about others?  Do they have a good attitude towards life in general?

Today’s inspiration is about,  how changing your outlook changes your world.   What are the benefits of being more grateful, thankful, light-hearted, friendly, kind and positive?  Well, here are some good reasons!

  1. Positive thinking attracts good things to you.
  2. A positive outlook creates meaningful relationships.
  3. Being positive decreases depression and anxiety.
  4. Positive thoughts increase motivation, inspiration and creativity.
  5. Being positive improves the immune system.

After reading these reasons, why are we not more positive?  This is a good question to ponder.  Why is being critical, mean, sarcastic and judgmental the norm?  Why not be happy and supportive of others?  What if more people were kind, helpful, and supportive?   Would this change the world for the better?  Would people return the kindness back more willingly?  It takes one person at a time to make this change.  What about you?  Are you ready to change your outlook and change your world?

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. ~ Winston Churchill

The Takeaway:
Having a positive outlook increases motivation, creativity, better health, improves relationships and makes the world a better place.

Self Reflection:
How am I creating more positivity in my life?

Today’s Affirmation:
Positive thinking is changing me for the better!

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life ~ Day 6 ~ Breaking Free of Procrastination and Getting Stuff Done!

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life

Day 6 ~ Breaking Free of Procrastination and Getting Stuff Done!

Procrastination is a big waste of time.  Putting off those difficult or undesirable tasks doesn’t contribute to becoming successful.  Once the task or project is completed you can move on to more enjoyable tasks and have a great sense of accomplishment.

How to Break Free of Procrastination:

  • Identify it
  • Recognize it and decide to stop
  • Focus on the task until completed

Take control of all distractions such as responding immediately to email notifications, incoming voice mail messages, texts, instant messages, social media notifications and set specific times and limits for these activities.  Concentrate by tuning out or turning off all distractions and make a commitment to that specific task.  Halt any negative self talk and replace these thoughts with positive affirmations.  Envision how you will feel after the task or project is completed.

“The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started.” Dawson Trotman

Sometimes getting started is hard but the rewards are endless.  Setting your goal, coming up with a plan of action and the most important thing is putting the plan into to action.  Getting started and motivated to take the action steps is crucial to change.  Procrastination is a waste of precious time.  It doesn’t help you attain your goal or dream.  To get what you want you have to pursue it.  To pursue it, starts with motivation to want to get things done.

Self Reflection:

What are some key factors which enable procrastination to continue?

What tasks have you been putting off?

How will it change your circumstances by getting them done?

Today’s Affirmation:

Comments are always welcome, please feel free to share your thoughts on how to get things done.

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life ~ Day 5 ~ Extinguish the Fire of Negativity and Be the Light of Inspiration

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life

Day 5 ~ Extinguish the Fire of Negativity and Be the Light of Inspiration!

We all have been around someone who is a constant downer.  The moment they walk into the room the atmosphere changes.  Smiles cease, conversations stop and immediately people’s body language and demeanor becomes defensive.  Why does negative behavior blaze quickly and become so powerful?  How can one person’s bad attitude overpower a good time just by walking into a room or by making one rude comment?

How to Create Smiles and Be the Light of Inspiration:

  • Be silent and refrain from negative comments
  • Smile often
  • Be friendly and kind spirited
  • Compliment others
  • Forgive and let go of past hurt in relationships

Which person do you want to be?
The person who walks into a room and everyone walks out or the person who walks in and everyone smiles?

Comments are always welcome, please feel free to share your thoughts on how to be the person who walks in and everyone smiles.

12 Days of Inspiration Day 3 – A Joyous Balanced Life – Pull the Plug and Connect!

A Joyous Balanced Life – Pull the Plug and Connect!

Turning off the electronics is a great way to reconnect with yourself and others who are truly important to you.  This provides self-reflection to refresh, refocus, and appreciate what you have in your life.

Make a conscious effort to be fully present with others.  Put your phone away while visiting with friends and family.  Give them your full attention and be really engaged in conversations.

After you pulled the plug:

What was it like to be present and engaged in conversations?

Is this something you will continue to practice?

Comments are always welcome, please feel free to share your thoughts and how you accomplish putting down the electronics.

Survival Techniques for the Holiday Season

Holiday time can be stressful.  At times we feel we are being pulled in all directions with work and family obligations.  Everyone wants something whether it is time together, putting up decorations, planning meals and buying presents.  Plus keeping up with the huge workload.

Then there is the family dynamics.  Each parent wanting you to spend the holidays with them.  Siblings not speaking to other.  Someone is usually mad at someone in the family.   Family members bringing up embarrassing moments.  Family gossiping about each other.  Some family members don’t want to compromise and refuse to compromise, demanding you spend the holidays at their house.   The in-laws and out-laws not wanting to spend the holidays together, which would make life easier on you and your family if everyone would come to your house.  You, your spouse and children dreading the holiday season because you and partner start fighting over what to do.  Holding old grudges for years that never seem to heal but intensify as the years go on.

How do you keep everyone happy?  You can’t, someone’s feelings will get hurt, you really can’t please everyone.  Which makes the holidays unbearable for you and your partner.

What do you do?

Do you dread the holidays because of one or more of these situations above?

Always going to one side of the family and not the other does cause resentment and hurt all around, and eventually between you and your spouse.

Here are some alternatives:

  1. When you feel a family struggle coming on think about something that you love to do and how to make it happen.  Focus on getting creative instead of the struggle.
  2. Have an open house holiday party from 10:00 am – 3:00pm and invite everyone to come anytime between those hours and have the open house on a day that is best for you. (Having the party in the middle of the day from 10:00 – 3:00 allows you to catch the morning and afternoon people.  The open house guests can come at anytime and leave at anytime within the 10:00 am to 3:00 pm time frame.  This keeps chaos down when family members don’t like each other, because they can leave and not feel pressured to stay.  People don’t get so drunk due to the shorter timeframe and it being earlier in the day which avoids triggers and fights.  The best thing is you don’t feel the pressure to please everyone and you can have fun).
Develop the party into ease by providing cookies and punch, and the guests are welcome to bring finger foods as well.  If you feel creative have a fun activity or a game for your guests when they arrive.
  3. You and your spouse can spend the holidays apart with each ones own families and then share special holiday moments together on some other day or plan a romantic weekend getaway together.

The Take Away:
Communicating and compromising by learning to accept alternative solutions may help save your relationships with the immediately family.  The benefits of doing one or more of these alternatives is to manage challenging family members and to make sure you have quality time with spouse/partner and your immediate family.  The holidays can be a joyous and peaceful experience when you have solutions to the challenges you face during the holidays.
