7 Tips to Deal With Worry

Everyone worries from time to time and this is normal, however constantly worrying, second-guessing yourself and thinking the “what if’s” in every situation is not healthy for anyone.  Most worries never happen and its wasted time.  When negative thoughts or emotions enter your mind, you can allow them or redirect them.

Here are 7 tips to deal with worry:

  1. Spend some time in meditation to calm your thoughts.
  2. Listen to light upbeat music.
  3. Pray about the situation for guidance and peace.
  4. Journal about the situation which is causing the worry.
  5. Go for a walk, the gym, bicycle ride,  or any kind of exercise.
  6. Repeat positive affirmations.
  7. Practice gratitude.

Figure out what is causing the worry.  Is this something you have the ability to change?  If yes, change it.  If no, spend time using these tips to reduce the anxiety.  Constant worry disturbs sleep patterns, it may cause mood swings and tiredness.  All of these may harm your health, work performance and relationships.  Isn’t it time to put your worry to bed?  Below are some prayers, affirmations and quotes to get you started.

 Prayers:

Dear God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
Amen

Dear God, help me to remember that nothing is going to happen today,

that you and I can’t handle together.

Amen

Affirmations:

I am letting go of my worry

I release all my worry

I am free of worry

Positive Worry Quotes:

Worry is like a rocking chair.

It gives you something to do,

but doesn’t get you anywhere.

Emma Bombeck

Do not anticipate trouble,

or worry about what may never happen.

Keep in the sunlight.

Ben Franklin

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow,

it only saps today of its joy.

Leo Buscaglia

Relax with a Staycation

Last week blog post was about “Time to Plan a Vacation”.  This week is about “Staycation”.   A Staycation is a good alternative, if you are unable to take a get a way vacation.

What is a Staycation?

A Staycation is when you vacation at home with some leisure time and activities within driving distance, staying at home and sleeping in your own bed at night.

What are the Benefits of a Staycation?

A Staycation may involve hanging around the house or taking day trips around your city or the surrounding areas.

  1.  You sleep in your own bed.
  2.  No packing a suitcase.
  3.  Don’t have to make travel accommodations.
  4. It is inexpensive.
  5. It is relaxing and you set your own pace.
  6. You get a break from work.
  7. You can unwind, unplug and spend some quality time reconnecting with the family and friends.

A Staycation is NOT

  1.  Staying home and watching TV all day.
  2. Doing household chores.
  3. Do It Yourself (DYI) Projects around the home.

Some fun ideas for a Staycation

1.  Explore and enjoy the outdoors:  Go for a hike, have a picnic at a local park, bicycling, go to an urban lake for a walk or fishing, read a book outside on your patio.

2. Go on an adventure and do some local activities: to the museums, theatre, art galleries, sporting events, festivals or bowling.

3.  Enjoy your favorite hobby.

Another type of Staycation is staying at a local hotel

The Benefits:

  1.  No cleaning
  2.  No making the bed
  3.  No cooking
  4.  Relax by the pool, in the hot tub and/or read a book

A Staycation at a local hotel does have a cost, however it is less expensive then traveling outside your local area.  You do have to pack a bag and won’t be sleeping in your own bed, the upside you are taking a break from work and allowing yourself to recharge.

Getting away from work is good for your mind, body, and soul.  A Staycation may be the right answer for you.
