This job is killing me… What to do?

This job is killing me… What to do?

Have you ever had days at work when you think….. I just can’t do this anymore?  You are at your breaking point.  If one more thing happens, I am going to walk out that door and never look back.

You may go home:

Slam things around

Go on a cleaning frenzy

Grab the biggest bottle of alcohol to escape

Yell at your spouse

Become a constant complainer and whiner

Turn on the TV and not move or speak for hours

Over indulge in the comfort of food

This isn’t you and you don’t like it!   You are not alone.  I think everyone has possibly experienced something similar at least once in their life.

If this is how you are feeling; do you think it may be time to really self-reflect on what you truly want in a career and in your life?

  • What happened to get you to this point of complete frustration and exhaustion?
  • Is it constant changes at work?
  • It is a co-worker?
  • It is your boss?
  • Is it you?
  • Is it the challenges you face daily that never seem to end?
  • Is it the absence of updated technology to do your job efficiently?
  • Is it the desire of being heard?
  • Is it the lack of positive recognition or feedback for everything you do at work?
  • Is it about not getting a promotion?
  • Is it the co-worker who doesn’t do anything all day, while you are covering their work load?
  • Okay, I know the list could go on and on……..

Is it time to make a shift before this job really does kills you?

You really do have options.  You are not stuck!  You can make a change for the better.  You are not totally helpless.  Things can get better.

What to consider:

Should I stay or go?

Make a list of “why to stay” and “why to go”.  Be upfront and honest and no holding back from the truth of the matter!

What’s keeping me here?

Are there other options?

If, so what are they?

  • A Transfer within the company?
  • Start job hunting?
  • Hire a career coach?
  • Go back to school and learn something new?
  • Retirement?

After making and reviewing the list to “stay or go”.  What did this list say you?

Quote:
All you have to do is know where you’re going.  The answers will come to you of their own accord. ~ Earl Nightingale

Don’t stay in a job you truly hate because of fear, anxiety, doubt; take a leap of faith towards a new work life journey.  Once you make the right decision for you, this feeling of dread, anguish and heavy burden will be lifted.  You will become your happy pleasant self again.  Isn’t it time to do the right thing for you before it is too late?

Affirmations:

There is something better for me!

I deserve better!

I will find what I am looking for!

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life ~ Day 12 ~ What is a Balanced Life?

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life

Day 12 ~ What is a balanced life?

What does work-life balance really mean?

According to Wikipedia.org work-life balance is a concept including proper prioritizing between “work” (career and ambition) and “lifestyle” (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation).

I recently asked friends, family and followers:

What is a balanced life?

Here are the responses:

  1. What is that? I wouldn’t know what to tell you. I’ve always been running around like a chicken. Maybe it is when the husband helps you cook, wash dishes and take care of the kids with out moaning. When you find a job that doesn’t make you crazy and you go home with a smile on your face looking forward to the next day. Your guest is as good as mine.
  2. I feel like a balanced life is when you can accomplish your professional and personal goals all while remaining in the moment with your everyday life.
  3. To me.. in 2018, it means working a lot less, and doing nothing more, making time to see my friends more, have more fun, and switch off a lot more!! working 16 hour sometimes longer days in front of a screen, is not going to happen again ever; nothing is worth that!
  4. When you have enough time for your family and friends and don’t let your work consume you, and try to take care of yourself by exercising, and eating healthy.  Don’t let your problems take over you.
  5. That is a hard question, I really don’t know.

Self – Reflection Questions:

What is a balanced life?

What would my life look like with a balanced life?

Choose a time to journal daily.  It can be when you get up in the morning, on your lunch time or before going to sleep.  Journaling can open up your mind to change and help inspire you to pursue your dreams, aspirations and goals.

Journaling allows you to alter your thoughts which block you from achieving your goals.  We all need someplace to think and rejuvenate.

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life ~ Day 8 ~ Establishing Kind Boundaries and Sticking to Them

12 Days of Inspiration ~ A Joyous Balanced Life!

Day 8 ~ Establishing Kind Boundaries and Sticking to Them

Establishing boundaries is sometimes hard.  Some people look at boundaries as being mean or a punishment.  Kind people sometimes find it very hard to talk about how they want to be treated or even when they feel someone is taking advantage of them.

Today, is about establishing boundaries, still being a kind person and sticking to those boundaries which were created.

In your life right now, what are some behaviors that you feel someone has crossed the line with you?

  • A roommate who hasn’t paid their share of the rent.
  • A friend or family member who borrows money and hasn’t paid it back.
  • Someone borrows your things and doesn’t return them.
  • A colleague not doing their fair share of the workload.
  • A family member who is constantly dropping off their children for you to watch while they go out and party.
  • Family showing up at your house without calling, wants to stay for the weekend and wants you to entertain them, when you already had plans for the weekend.
  • A child demanding you buy them something you can’t afford.
  • A spouse/partner not following through on a promise and ditches you to go out with friends instead.
  • The list could go on and on………..

Has any of these circumstances above happened to you?  Are they still happening?

Do you want to tell the person to stop, but don’t have the courage because you are afraid of losing the friendship or hurting the person feelings?

What is this doing to you?

How do you start a discussion with someone who has crossed the line or is taking advantage of you?

  • Explain the situation in a calm way.
  • Ask for what you want and for the behavior to stop.
  • Ask for repayment and/or returning items with a deadline date.
  • Get a commitment that the behavior will stop.

By letting the behavior continue, it becomes a habit, and the person will expect you to continue to give to them and the bad behavior will keep happening.  When boundaries are clear and followed, both people have a sense of what is appropriate and mutual respect is established within the relationship.

Comments are always welcome, please feel free to share your thoughts about establishing kind boundaries and keeping to them.
