Playcation – It’s Time To Plan It and Do It!

It’s officially summer. The weather is changing to enjoy outdoor adventures. It’s time to start planning and going on vacation activities. Scheduling it on the calendar is the first step to make it happen. After that, the time is blocked out, and work will not occur.

For some planning, a vacation can be overwhelming. Booking the flight, lodging, activities, rent a car, or not renting a car, etc. Staying local and pursuing fun, entertainment, and recreation may be a good option.

What is a playcation?  Here is my explanation of a playcation as doing something fun and enjoyable on vacation. I recommend blocking out and scheduling specific enjoyable activities to do physically while getting some fresh air and sunlight. Maybe it is golfing, parasailing, snorkeling, zip-lining, water skiing, camping, hiking, getting the body moving, and so much more.

What has been your bucket list or what I call adventure list that you always wanted to do? If you don’t have an adventure list, it’s time to make one. Making an adventure list will help you plan future adventures and playcations.

I started making an adventure list by each state in two notebooks; as I see something on TV, Facebook, Pinterest, or hear about it from someone to visit and do that activity, I will write it in the books. If I don’t have the books with me, I put them on my phone in notes and then later write them in the book under that state.

As you begin to plan a playcation, take out your adventure list. I find this is a great motivation tool to experience something new a different and inspire me to do it.

How about making an adventure list and putting it into action?

I would love to hear or see your adventure list. Become carefree and just do it. Let the adventure begin!

Summary:

During the pandemic, many of us stopped work, school, living the way we lived. Discovered many activities at home, which were things we used to do before life got busy, such as cooking, baking, making craft, making music, art, home-based exercise, journaling, talking to people, playing cards, etc.  And many people realized they were working and living in a way they didn’t like.

Patti’s workbook the 21 Days to Optimal Work-Life Balance.

Angela talked about The Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR) has an article on The Vision of a Well-Being Economy, which shares how “We must shift how we understand and build societal health and prosperity, looking beyond economic growth to collective well-being and environmental sustainability.”

Patti discussed – When negative thoughts or emotions enter your mind, you can allow them and redirect them. The trouble with worrying about money and work can consume you, but having strategies can relieve the anxiety.

Spend some time in meditation to calm your thoughts.

Listen to upbeat music to manage anxiety and manifest money.

Pray about the situation for guidance and peace. Journal about the problem which is causing the worry.

Go for a walk, the gym, bicycle ride, yoga or fitness classes or any type of exercise.

Repeat positive affirmations.

Hire a financial coach to help develop a healthy money mindset and reasonable financial goals.

Angela shares about Sondra Ray and Leonard Orr’s book Rebirthing in the New Age. It is hard to get a copy of it now.

One of her powerful ones is “I deserve to be loved.”Shakti Gawain has a great book called “Creating True Prosperity”that gets to your underlying beliefs around money and abundance and T Harv Eker book The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind.

A Refreshing Trip To The Beach

As a Work-Life Balance and Leadership coach, my goal is to encourage managers and supervisors to take time away from work and enjoy life. I started this travel adventure blog to inspire others to get away from work and spend time with family and friends, whether for a day trip, weekend, or a week-long or more vacation. It can be a spur of the moment or a well-planned adventure.

On this travel adventure, my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren invited me to go to Puerto Penasco, Mexico, for a three-day beach trip. We stayed at an Airbnb house within walking distance of the beach. I hadn’t been to Rocky Point since I was a child and didn’t remember it at all. However, I was grateful and looking forward to seeing it and spending time with my family.

The Airbnb house had an iron gate around the whole property with two full-sized bedrooms, queen-sized beds, and one room with bunk beds, a bathroom with a shower, kitchen, and living room. The yard was large for parking and had a place to wash off the sand after going into the beach. You couldn’t see the ocean from the house, but it had a lovely sunset view. Unfortunately, I didn’t get up early enough to see the sunrise, but I wish I had. We could hear live music from a bar not too far away outside on the patio at the house in the evening. The band was good, and we had fun dancing to the music.

My son-in-law can speak Spanish and knew his way around. It was nice having someone in the group who could communicate, understand, translate, and read menus, especially when shopping and at local restaurants.

We went in late May; it wasn’t too hot on the beach or outside as long as you were in the shade and wearing a hat when not in the shade. My grandkids loved playing in the sand with their buckets, shovels, rakes and standing in the water while the waves rushed up to them. The water was a cool temperature in the morning and got warmer in the late afternoon. It was fun watching the boats, parasails, and people swimming in the ocean.

There were a lot of merchants coming up to us with their products and services. Of course, when you’re trying to read a book or relax, that can be an unpleasant experience, but as more people came onto the beach, they started to thin out a bit on approaching us.

It was nice that we began our trip on a Thursday and spent all day on the beach on Friday because it wasn’t packed with people. On Saturday morning, we went to the beach, and it was starting to get jam-packed. So we spent a couple of hours there and drove back home.

The Takeaway:

Taking time out from the daily grind and getting away for a quick trip to the beach is refreshing and good for the soul. In addition, spending quality time with family is vital to stay connected while making meaningful memories that last forever.

I would love to hear your thoughts as a manager or supervisor on how you plan your travel adventures.

Episode 45 – Daily Habits to Prevent Depression During Stressful Times While Strengthening Your Relationships!

In this episode Angela and Patti will be discussing daily habits to prevent depression during stressful times and strengthen your relationships.

Click to Listen here.

The definition of depression according to the American Psychiatric Association website:

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home.

Angela recommends the Megaway Shakes. It has 13 powerfoods, like maca, ashwagandha, cinnamon, lucuma, barley greens, and the list goes on. Brigitte from the megaway formulated her shake to directly affect the mood and hormonal system of the body. You can find out about her shake at www.themegaway.com

Angela talks about Spiritual Mantras are really good for clearing the air in your home environment when things get stagnated by your thoughts and feelings.

Forest therapy is used in Japan to treat depression and anxiety. Patti shared forest bathing technique in episode Episode 41 – How Spending Time in Nature Can Help You and Your Relationships.

Angela talks about the book that shares how we all carry trauma called “The body keeps the score” by Dr Bessel Van Der Kolk.

Angela shares about seeing the musical Come from Away in Sydney

For those of you interested in meditation as a way to touch your own light.

Angela is starting a new 8 week course on July 8, 2021 in the USA and July 9, 2021 in Australia. It’s meditation for relaxation and transformation where we explore how to transform old ways of being with yourself and learn how to relax, enjoy and dive deeper into your true energy – which is the energy of joy. Meditation for Relaxation and Transformation.

The Feelings Of Being Alone As A Manager or Supervisor

I have recently been watching the entire TV Series “Alone.” This show is about ten survival experts put in a remote area at least 10 miles away from each other to fend for themselves with ten survival items, some clothes, and live off the land. The survivalist who stays the longest wins 500,000 dollars. In season 7, if a participant lasts 100 days, they will receive 1 million dollars.

It is interesting to follow each participant on their journey of living alone and isolated how they cope with surviving from dealing with emotional, physical, and mental challenges along the way.

What is their breaking point? What keeps them going out there when they could easily hit a button and go home? The reasons they are there in the first place and how that goal changes once they experienced their time alone and the hardship they endure.

How this life lesson changed their life forever in ways, they never thought it would. The time they spent in self-reflection about what matters.

To see their struggles, whether physical, mental, or emotionally, can bring you to tears. How excited and thankful they get for catching a fish or trapping an animal in a snare. Each day is about trying to hold on and not give up.

Sometimes, this is how it feels for managers and supervisors dealing with the daily grind “ALONE.”  Trying to hold it together each day—the pressure of being squeezed from top to bottom trying to survive the criticism and actions of yourself and others and being judged for every decision made or not made. Every day walking into the office can be the breaking point of success or ruin.

Employees worried about layoffs, unreasonable workload demands, meetings that don’t amount too much, expectations of successfully managing the chaos each day, and ridiculous emails to answer—trying to work or lead your team without any emotions.

Feeling emotions are natural, and if you don’t have any, what happened?

When did the career strip you of all humanity?

The Alone series teaches us there is so much more to life than boatloads of money, fame, and a demanding career that requires attention 24/7 and eventually leads to burnout, overwhelm, health problems, and anxiety.

The life lessons learned from the show to be grateful, love deeply, cherish the peacefulness, enjoy life to the fullest, and go home and spend time with your family and friends.

I would love to hear your thoughts as a manager or supervisor while surviving the daily grind.

If you are struggling with the daily grind how about hiring a leadership, life, or career coach like me to help you work through the daily challenges, and continue moving forward to where you want to be with your life.

Episode 44 – Accepting Responsibility for Choices in Your Relationships – The Good, the Bad and the Narcissist!

In this podcast episode, Angela and Patti discuss taking responsibility for your choices.

It’s becoming common now that people are starting to label and blame the end of a relationship on their former partner. Instead of taking responsibility for their choices within the relationship and the other person, they were a narcissist. Is it easier to blame everything on the other person instead of self-reflecting on what went wrong within the relationship?

What did you learn?

What will you look for before entering into a relationship next time?

What do you want from a relationship?

What are the deal breakers?

Angela talks about the book  Brain Wash by David Perlmutter. He has many studies showing that narcissistic behaviors are connected to the generations that use more social media. So that could make it easier for people to blame people for selfish behavior because it is a typical cultural attitude.

When self-reflecting, ask these questions to yourself:

*What did I learn?

*What will I look for before entering into a relationship next time?

*What do I want from a relationship?

*What are the deal breakers for me?

Patti wrote blog posts about Making Good Choices and A Workplace Phenomenon – the Narcissistic Manager.

Angela speaks about dance and meditation. Dance is about feeling yourself. Meditation is about seeing yourself. Both dance and meditation help you to look inward – not outward. Want to Dance with Angela?

What Keeps You Going – When You Feel Like Giving Up?

At the time of writing this blog post, it had been a struggle for me. I knew I wanted to write a blog post, and I couldn’t think of a topic. I hadn’t been feeling well, and everything seemed to be hard to focus on and do. I had the COVID vaccine and an allergy shot. It hit me hard.

I talked with my husband about the struggle of a topic, and he said maybe you should write a blog post about this subject.  What keeps you going?

It is hard to be inspired when you just aren’t feeling it. 🙂 I’m sure we all have felt that way some time or another.

Pushing through it happens daily for people going to a job they hate.

How do they get through it?

Is it a mindset of “I have bills to pay, a family to feed, or goals to achieve to make my life easier, and people are relying on me?”

What keeps you going when you don’t feel like doing it?

I think we sometimes put heavy expectations on ourselves as well. So what if I didn’t write a blog post this week? I’m sure my followers would understand or maybe not even notice that I missed a week. I love coaching, writing, podcasting, blogging, and traveling; it inspires me, and my hope is it inspires others.

We all go through things in our lives that can throw us out of wack. It could be a hopeless mindset, family circumstances, a tyrant boss, health issues, or a tragedy. How do we move past it and keep going?

Something to believe in or the will of not giving up?

I asked my followers – What keeps you going – when you feel like giving up?

Here are some of the comments:

  1. Look around you
  2. Never thought to give up, but after a long exhausting day, just seeing my dogs makes me at peace again
  3. Life is precious, have a good cry sure does help.
  4. Coaches like you!
  5. Faith
  6. Prayer
  7. Family
  8. A cocktail
  9. Friends
  10. Beer
  11. Chocolate

Life circumstances have a way of knocking us down when we weren’t expecting it —having strategies to cope and putting them in place when starting to feel the emotions of giving up helps.

Let’s talk about some quick and easy strategies to get through the day.

  • Get up and move around
  • Go outside and get some fresh air
  • Eat a healthy snack or meal.
  • Exercise
  • Talk to a friend
  • Listen to uplifting music
  • Get creative, paint, color, or draw
  • Cuddle with your pet
  • Read a good book
  • Watch or listen to comedy
  • Dance and sing to your favorite songs
  • Do something fun and silly

Hire a life or career coach like me to help you work through the challenges and continue moving forward to where you want to be with your life.

I would love to hear your strategies and tips on “What keeps you going – when you feel like giving up?”

Episode 33 – The Damages and After Effects of People Pleasing to Yourself and Others! (Podcast)

In this episode, Angela and Patti discuss People’s Pleasing and how it can disappoint relationships, whether within yourself and relating to others.

People Pleasers are very helpful and usually don’t say no when someone asks them for a favor. They spend much time doing things for others and disregard their own needs. Being a People Pleaser can cause disappointment because not everyone has the same kind heart or good intentions. They can attract people who will take advantage of their generosity.

Angela and Patti share experiences of being a people pleaser and the lessons learned.

What are a few traits of a People pleaser?

* Seeks approval and words of affirmation

* Fears being alone

* Feelings of being selfish or guilty for not meeting the needs of others

* Irritable when others don’t take your advice

* Being the “go-to person” when someone is in need

* Covering for or taking the blame for others

* Giving money away, which can lead towards depletion

What are some characteristics of a people pleaser?

Wants to be liked by others, seeks to earn it by pleasing, rescuing, giving away money and things, or flattery. They may even tell little white lies to spare people’s feelings when they don’t want to do something. They can’t express their needs openly and directly and want reassurance through acceptance and affection. They make others feel obligated to reciprocate.

People-pleasers may want to earn acceptance by helping others. They put other people’s needs ahead of their own. When they do this, they become resentful and sometimes bitter because the other person doesn’t do the same. They harbor anger, regret, and resentment from feeling used.

At times, they may feel responsible for other people’s behavior. Saying “yes” becomes a habit, and for others, it can be an addiction that makes them feel needed in someone else’s life. Feelings of security and self-confidence come from getting the approval of others. Our very first podcast episode was When to Say No and When to Say Yes!

Angela uses clairsentience and kinaesthetic in her healing. It is a huge help to not jumping into the emotions, which means developing a stronger relationship with your intuition, which has taken her years. It has also taught her that feeling for a person is not the same as helping them.

The stories created by a people pleaser to justify their actions and choices are often subtle and cover up the real story that you feel is not enough to state what you want. The damage of believing your stories that justify people-pleasing is that you will delay discovering your true worth by behaviors that keep you locked in suffering other people’s emotions or stuck in guilting others and yourself for not meeting your needs.

Patti and Angela have years of experience overcoming people-pleasing. So, the answer is listening to others who overcome people-pleasing to find true self-worth and ways of communicating that in the world. You can find out more about working with us individually below.

If you want to learn about Angela’s kinaesthetic healing online movement classes, you can receive a free class by signing up for her newsletter here: https://mailchi.mp/0c610663e337/subscribe-to-angelas-newsletter

A People Pleaser may struggle with work-life balance, and Patti has created a self-study at your own pace 21 Days to Optimal Work/Life Balance Program that addresses how to say no for people pleasers and make better boundaries, so others don’t take advantage of them.
