On the EDGE

On the EDGE

Are you on the edge looking down the cliff of disaster?  Is there something you are doing or feeling that is not right for you which may hurt you or others and you need to stop?  Are you in a dead end job and you just can’t take it anymore and you are doing nothing to change your situation?  Are you hanging out with people who are dragging you down instead of encouraging you to pursue your goals and aspirations?  Do you constantly complain to friends and family about your situation but don’t take any steps to change it?

Why do we do these things to ourselves instead of stopping and self-reflecting “What is making me so unhappy” and staying in these conditions?

Do you think it is time to look at what is making you miserable and fix it?

Change the situation and make life better.

What is holding you back and you need to get rid of?

How will you change this situation?

Life is so much better if you shift your mindset.

What about hiring a coach to assist you in figuring out what is dragging you down and get you off the edge of that cliff.  Isn’t it time to  start looking up at the sky with meaning, purpose and happiness?

Having someone support, encourage and hold you accountable is the first step to change.  What are you waiting for? ~ Patti

Start living the life you IMAGINED

Start living the life you IMAGINED

Back in January of 2014 I had put out a poll named “What is preventing YOU from accomplishing your dream, goal or aspirations?  Here were the results as of today:

The voters had Self-Doubt or Confidence as the number one reason.  Time or Dedication and Financial Reasons or Obligations were the number two reasons.  Why do you think Self-Doubt or Confidence was number one?

Why are people afraid to pursue their dreams or aspirations?  Is it better not to go after your dreams so you won’t fail?  Absolutely NOT!  I recall sometime back I had read an article which discussed when people were close to dying they wished they took more chances and didn’t worry about what others thought of them.  They wished they did the things they wanted instead of going through the motions.  Following the life they imagined.  (This is my interpretation of the article.)

Can you imagine how many happy and satisfied people there would be in this world, if they pursued their goals, dreams or aspirations?  There are so many people miserable because they are in a job they hate and stay for all the wrong reasons.  These unsatisfied individuals contribute on spreading the misery around.

How do you live the life you imagined?

Start with creating an action plan.  Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do you really want in your life?
  • What do you need in your life to accomplish it?
  • What steps will you take?
  • What may prevent you from achieving it?
  • What will you do to move past those obstacles and achieve what you want?

Right now the life you’re leading is this acceptable or satisfying to you?  Or is there something more you want?  Can you imagine how different your life would be if you followed these steps to accomplish the life you imagined? ~ Patti

What is a Leader?

Last year I was one of fourteen coaches accepted to write a chapter in a book called Coaching Perspectives IV.  It was an honor and privilege to write a chapter.  I learned so much from the process and really went out of my comfort zone.  Being a coach is encouraging others to reach their greatest potential and get out of their comfort zone to achieve it.  When you see them accomplishing their purpose with confidence it bring such a smile to my face and joy in my heart.  Being a leader to your employees and seeing them accomplish their goals is similar.  Having pride watching them conquer their goals and learning new things.  Seeing them improving, growing with knowledge and confidence is so satisfying as a supervisor or manager.

This week a former employee of mine interviewed me for her last class assignment which was to interview a Leader.  She stated that I exemplify leadership to her.  Talk about a compliment.  I was very flattered that she picked me to interview.    This really got me thinking about the chapter I wrote “Coaching for Leadership”.  One of the sections in the chapter is called “What is a Leader?’

Here is a small portion from the chapter “Coaching for Leadership” from the book Coaching Perspectives IV.

What is a Leader?

A leader is someone who is there for her staff.  A leader listens with compassion and understanding, and assists whenever possible.  She comes up with workplace solutions and evaluates how her decisions affect others.  She is someone willing to stand out, stand up, and be part of the solutions that help to achieve mutual goals.  At times, a leader may be a mentor or a coach.  She knows that being a leader can be demanding and challenging job.  Good leaders learn from their mistakes.  Copyright © 2014 by the Center for Coaching Certification LLC.

My question to you:  What is a Leader to YOU?

It would be wonderful to see your thoughts and comments. 🙂  ~ Patti

Leaving a LEGACY

What kind of LEGACY do you want to leave behind?

Leaving a LEGACY

What is a legacy?  According to Webster dictionary it means the following:

:  a gift by will especially of money or other personal property or bequest
:  something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past
The biggest question we should be asking ourselves is “What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?”
I ponder this question and looked back at my life.  The happy times, the sad times, the tough times and the peaceful times.  I asked myself, “Did I make a difference?”  Was I a good spouse, parent, daughter, friend, co-worker or leader?  Sometimes yes and sometimes not.   Did I learn from each experience?  Definitely, and could I have done better?  Absolutely!
Questions to ponder:
How do you want people to remember you?
What kinds of accomplishments do you want to achieve?
What precious moments would you like your family members and friends to reminisce about you?
  • That you helped people when they needed you?
  • As a good parent, spouse, friend, family member or person?
  • You were happy and accomplished your goals and aspirations?
  • You made a difference and contributed to this world in a positive way?
  • You were fulfilled with your life and most of your actions?
What changes would you like to make to attain a better legacy?
There is still time to change your course in life and live the life you want!  I know these are very deep questions, but it is time to look at your life and make changes so you can accomplish the legacy you want to leave behind.
Are there changes to be made in your attitude towards family, friends, co-workers by showing respect, kindness, compassion, and gentleness?  Maybe realizing we are all different and we look at things in our own way.  Are we too busy complaining and whining instead of coming up with solutions to make things better around us?  Are there apologies which may need to be said towards those we offended or hurt?  Or give forgiveness towards those whom hurt us?
The next big question is “What do you want to do about it?”
Be inspired, be happy and sometimes we ought to let go of what is making us unhappy.  Chalk it up to a learning experience, move on, let go, and learn from it.  Like the old saying goes:  Sometimes people come into our lives to teach us a lesson; something we teach others.  Which one are you?
I would love to see your comments and thoughts on what kind of legacy you want to leave behind. ~ Patti

Day 30 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Getting STARTED

Day 30

“The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started.” Dawson Trotman

Sometimes getting started is hard but the rewards are endless.  Setting your goal, coming up with a plan of action and the most important thing is putting the plan into to action.  Getting started and motivated to take the steps is crucial to change your life and to live your dream.  Procrastination is a waste of precious time.  It doesn’t help you attain your goal or dream.  To get what you want you have to pursue it.  To pursue it starts motivating you to achieve it.

Question:  Have you been procrastinating or are you on track towards your goal and dream?

Day 27 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Big Steps

Steps

Day 26

If you have a great ambition, take as big a step as possible in the direction of fulfilling it. ~ Mildred McAfee

Big steps

What is your great ambition?  Is there something you really want to do but have not figure out how to get there.  Setting up goals and a plan of action to accomplish your aspirations will help turn them into reality.  Without a plan there is no inspiration to pursue it and no accountability to put it into action.  Take the big step and start planning out how you will achieve your great ambition.  ~ Patti

Day 23 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Motivation comes from WITHIN!

Day 23

Motivation comes from WITHIN!

What is motivation?

According to the dictionary MOTIVATION means the following:

1. the act or an instance of motivating
2. desire to do; interest or drive
3. incentive or inducement

About this quote “motivation comes from within” this is really true.  If you do not commit to doing something you won’t do it.  Why is commitment so important?  When you have commitment to doing something you are driven to accomplish it.  People can be lead towards something however that doesn’t mean they will act on it.  It could be the best thing for them however if they don’t see it or want it they won’t act on it.  Wanting it gives motivation to go after it.  How badly do you want to change your circumstances?  Do you have the drive and purpose to change so you can have it?  What is holding you back?  Are you fearful of failure?  The biggest regret we can have is not trying.  Take a risk and be motivated to reach for what you want in life. ~ Patti

Day 22 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ What is LIFE Coaching?

Day 22

What is LIFE Coaching?

Life coaching focuses on the present and looks toward the future.  A life coach assists the client to view a life situation and encourages the client to discover what actions to pursue next.

Life coaching may include coaching on topics such as relationship with others, productivity, time management, finances, a career path, health, wellness and more.

A life coach asks powerful questions which assists the client to their own solutions.  The answers are within the client.  This helps the client to take action and move closer towards want they want in life.

Day 18 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Walking down the PATH of your DREAMS

Path

Day 18

Walking down the PATH of your DREAMS

We all have dreams we would like to accomplish.  Some are small steps along the path and others are large stepping stones.  As we walk down the path sometimes we stop, look around and wonder am I heading in the right direction.  Other times we keep stepping forward at a slow pace.  Then there are times we are running so fast on the path we forget to breathe.  Which path are you on?  Is the path heading towards what you really want in life or is the path going in the opposite direction?

Hiring a coach may inspire you to follow the path of your dreams.

Questions: Which direction are you going?  Is it time for a change?

Day 11 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Life is like Hiking a Mountain ~ Patti Oskvarek

Road

Below is the audio version of “Life is like Hiking a Mountain” read by Patti Oskvarek

Life is like hiking a mountain. Sometimes you’re moving forward. Sometimes you’re moving backwards. Sometimes you side step. Sometimes the trail is rough and rocky. Sometimes the trail is just plain flat. Sometimes there are curves that strike you when you least expect it. Sometimes there is shifting sand. Sometimes you feel like you are going round in circles and just don’t know how to stop the detour. You may have lost your way and need a compass (a coach) to get you back on the right path. Other times you’re moving upward and everything is going good. Then there are times you are physically and emotionally exhausted and want to give up, but you continue to move forward because you see the peak in the distance. This gives you just enough inspiration to keep moving forward.

You may stumble over rocks (obstacles). You get bruised but you pick yourself up, brush yourself off and keep moving forward. There are times when you start sliding down the mountain but you continue to push upward. You finally reach the top (your goal). You look all around and down below. You see the beauty and realize it was worth all of your struggles through the rough rocky terrain. You cherish and savor this moment with a smile. You have clarity and recognize, it was worth the pain and sacrifice to get there. As you reflect on this journey you now know it was well worth every precious step.

Live, laugh, dream, and love to the fullest! – Patti Oskvarek
