How Does Coaching Change Lives?

May is my favorite month!

It is springtime, International Coaching Week and so much more.  Coaching has such a powerful and unique way of changing lives for the better.

International Coaching Week (ICW) is May 7-13, 2018

What is International Coaching Week?

International Coaching Week (ICW) is an annual week-long global celebration of the coaching profession, which the International Coaching Federal (ICF) local chapters and members spread the word about coaching and how coaching changes lives.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is client focused.  The coach recognizes each client is a unique individual with the ability to determine their own priorities, goals, and action steps towards what they truly want in life.  The coach assists the client through active listening, asking questions, and affirming the client’s accountability.

How Does Coaching Change Lives?

Recently, I asked one of my client’s the following questions:

What has been your experience working with me as your coach?

Answer:  You are firm, when I am not.  You are able to clarify where I may not be standing up for myself – or what I am here to do.  You are fair, and see what is the fair or appropriate thing to do in situations that involved partnership, teams and relationships with others.  You simplify what I am looking for, so I don’t waste time, you help me get straight to the point.

It actually inspires me to do good, be a better person, be INVESTED in people, be caring, be passionate AND be connected to those I work with.  Think about myself and my needs AND think about the needs of others, while making sure I don’t sacrifice my needs.  A lot of care. You make me feel I’m worthwhile, valuable and you make me feel that others are worthwhile and valuable, and show or support me to support the value in others.

How do you think my coaching has helped you become a better leader?

Answer:  By being fearless to express my needs.  In simple terms, so even if I have emotions about expressing my needs.  I still express them.  Plus clarifying the benefits of expressing my needs to the best outcome for all involved.  It is important to understand what coaching means and why it can be essential to your life in and out of the office.

What do you think?  Are you ready to learn more about the coaching experience?

Have you experienced coaching?  If so, feel free to share about your coaching experiences.

How to Keep the Doer Employee Satisfied

What’s a Doer Employee?

The Doer employee gets things done and does whatever it takes to get the project completed on time.  As a supervisor having someone to count on is so important especially when you are dealing with an influential client. Knowing the project will get done right and finished by the deadline date is very crucial.

Who’s the best employee ever?  The Doer, they get things done!

How can you keep the Doer satisfied?

By acknowledging a job well done.

I asked a few people “What was the nicest thing a supervisor said to you?”

Here are some of the responses I received:

  • Thank you!
  • Good job!
  • I appreciated you staying late.  Thank you!
  • I don’t know what I would have done without you.

Sincere appreciation was what they said made them feel valued.  If you feel valued you will do anything for your boss.

What words of affirmation made you feel acknowledged by your supervisor?

Here are some words of affirmations you can use to show appreciation.

Words of Affirmation:

  • Good job.
  • A sincere “thank you”.
  • I don’t know what I would do without you.
  • That report was excellent.
  • Your presentation was great.
  • Thank you for staying late to finish.
  • Thank you for covering for me while I was out.
  • I trust you.
  • What a great suggestion let’s put it into action.
  • Thank you for speaking up in the meeting and giving your perspective.
  • You’re an awesome employee!
  • Thank you for being so flexible.

A lot of leaders are so focused on climbing the corporate ladder they tend to forget what is really important in life.  Their relationships with others.  A good leader inspires new leaders.

How do you keep a Doer satisfied?  Acknowledging good work performance.  Mentoring and coaching them into leadership positions. Building up their talents with motivating and challenging projects.

Comments are always welcome and please share this post with your colleagues, friends, and family on your social networks!

This Job is Killing Me. What to Do? [Video]

Posted in Blog, Business Inspiration, Career Inspiration, Inspirational Moments, Leadership Inspiration, Personal Inspiration

This job is killing me… What to do?

This job is killing me… What to do?

Have you ever had days at work when you think….. I just can’t do this anymore?  You are at your breaking point.  If one more thing happens, I am going to walk out that door and never look back.

You may go home:

Slam things around

Go on a cleaning frenzy

Grab the biggest bottle of alcohol to escape

Yell at your spouse

Become a constant complainer and whiner

Turn on the TV and not move or speak for hours

Over indulge in the comfort of food

This isn’t you and you don’t like it!   You are not alone.  I think everyone has possibly experienced something similar at least once in their life.

If this is how you are feeling; do you think it may be time to really self-reflect on what you truly want in a career and in your life?

  • What happened to get you to this point of complete frustration and exhaustion?
  • Is it constant changes at work?
  • It is a co-worker?
  • It is your boss?
  • Is it you?
  • Is it the challenges you face daily that never seem to end?
  • Is it the absence of updated technology to do your job efficiently?
  • Is it the desire of being heard?
  • Is it the lack of positive recognition or feedback for everything you do at work?
  • Is it about not getting a promotion?
  • Is it the co-worker who doesn’t do anything all day, while you are covering their work load?
  • Okay, I know the list could go on and on……..

Is it time to make a shift before this job really does kills you?

You really do have options.  You are not stuck!  You can make a change for the better.  You are not totally helpless.  Things can get better.

What to consider:

Should I stay or go?

Make a list of “why to stay” and “why to go”.  Be upfront and honest and no holding back from the truth of the matter!

What’s keeping me here?

Are there other options?

If, so what are they?

  • A Transfer within the company?
  • Start job hunting?
  • Hire a career coach?
  • Go back to school and learn something new?
  • Retirement?

After making and reviewing the list to “stay or go”.  What did this list say you?

Quote:
All you have to do is know where you’re going.  The answers will come to you of their own accord. ~ Earl Nightingale

Don’t stay in a job you truly hate because of fear, anxiety, doubt; take a leap of faith towards a new work life journey.  Once you make the right decision for you, this feeling of dread, anguish and heavy burden will be lifted.  You will become your happy pleasant self again.  Isn’t it time to do the right thing for you before it is too late?

Affirmations:

There is something better for me!

I deserve better!

I will find what I am looking for!
