Daily Forgiveness Practices

Forgiveness

A few weeks ago I wrote about life changing subjects to consider incorporating into ourselves this year in the blog post It is a New Year.  The fifth key action step is working on daily forgiveness practices and forgiving yourself and others.

This is a difficult topic even for me.  I have my own battles with forgiveness.  It is not easy and I continue to keep working on it daily.  There are some relationships that may not ever be where I want them to be and forgiveness is a work in progress.  It is important to continue being positive and forgiveness will follow.  Like the old saying goes “Forgive others, not because they deserve forgiveness but because you deserve peace.” ~ John Lockwood Huie

How do we forgive when someone has hurt us deeply and we comprehend that they will probably not ever apologize?  They may think what they said or did was justified.  They may think they did nothing wrong.  They may think they have every right to behave in that way.  They may be too selfish or self-centered to even realize they hurt you.  Or they may have the attitude, just don’t care and going to say whatever they feel without any regards to others feelings.  They may have the philosophy “Life is short, so say what you feel” and use it as an excuse to say hurtful things.

Forgiveness maybe even harder, when it is a family member.  The holidays and family special occasions are more difficult when these circumstances are in the mix.  These gatherings don’t feel joyful, it feels more like sadness, anger, anxiety and overwhelm.  Sometimes family members take sides and the hurt keeps hurting.  There may be rude intentional remarks towards you or other family members.  Conversations move toward your past mistakes instead of encouraging you or a happy to see you.  So how do we move past these situations and be able to forgive?

Okay, now let’s talk about some strategies to help deal with moving forward and not letting these occasions open up those old feelings of pain, anger, anxiety or an emotional breakdown and turn them into happy memorable times.

  • Listen to happy, soothing, spiritual or religious music when feelings of unforgiveness start to surface within you.
  • Think happy thoughts and find something fun to do.  A hobby, an art project, a sport activity, go for a walk or run.
  • Practice meditation and/or pray of “Letting Go”.
  • Use positive affirmations daily as well as before, during and after family gatherings.
  • Imagine yourself having a great time at the gathering and you have changed your perception of the unforgiven person as if they are someone you truly liked being around and admire.
  • Watch your reactions and triggers when you assume other people’s motives.  Become aware of those negative thoughts and/or assumptions, push them away with positive thinking. When there is continual negative thoughts and/or assumptions this will keep you stuck in the past.  Thinking with positive thoughts and action steps is a great way towards forgiveness.
  • When faced in a situation with the person who engages in being rude and demeaning towards you, calmly excuse yourself from the conversation, walk away and find someone who you like being around to uplift your spirits.  Smile and laugh with them to ease  the tension or apprehension you may be feeling.
  • After the occasion think about only all the good conversations you experienced and any special things that happened.  Journal about all these good things that happened and reflect on only them.

Being angry and unforgiving only hurts you.  Let go of the unforgiveness inside you and move towards experiencing peace, love, joy and true happiness in life. ~ Patti

Another saying:  “I believe that life is short, and there is too much time wasted bearing grudges, and I like to move on”. ~ Sam Taylor-Johnson

A good LEADER create LEADERS in others!

Follow the Leader

What is a good leader?  How does a good leader create leaders in others?  Those are great questions to ponder.

What is a good leader to me?

A good leader listens even when they don’t agree and has the ability to explain their outlook and why.  Has a talented way to give constructive feedback without deflating the employee.  Hold others accountable for their actions and hold themselves accountable, as well.

The ability to communicate the strategic plan and goals for the future of the team.  Motivate and encourage team members to obtain these goals with leadership and team building skills.

A good leader is trustworthy, honest, ethical, loyal, dedicated and dependable.  They coach, mentor and respect their employees and want them to succeed within their organization.  They are upfront about difficult uncomfortable situations and the subordinates are not guessing or assuming what they really meant.  These are a few traits I believe makes a good leader.

How does a good leader create leaders in others?

A good leader meets with their employees one on one to discuss personal development.  The supervisor and staff member create an action plan with goals and training courses.  Through coaching, mentoring, a career development plan and leading with a proven successful manner, the employee will be on a career path of purpose.  It is up to the individual to pursue their dreams and aspirations to be a good leader.  Don’t underestimate the importance of having a good coach, leader or person in your life to assist you along the way. Having a good leader to follow is priceless. Just think, what possibilities could be in the workplace if everyone was a good leader.  ~ Patti

  10. How do you know when it is your duty to act? Answer:  When someone is struggling, complacent, lacking motivation, bad attitude towards job or others.  It is time to find out what is causing it.  Is it time to give them a new project, some additional training or setting new  goals.  Asking questions  at the one on one session helps with a plan of action.  I really enjoyed the questions she asked me and the interview.  My wish is this interview inspired you in your daily walk as a Leader. ~ Patti 🙂

Building BRIDGES instead of putting up WALLS

Building BRIDGES instead of putting up WALLS

“People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges.” Joseph F. Newton

How many times in our relationships do we put up walls instead of letting others in?  Why do we feel others will hurt us if we let them in?  Is building walls easier than letting others get close to us or accept help?  We are social creatures and crave friendship.  Why are so many of us lonely?  Why is it easier to walk away from a relationship than to work at?    Is this relationship worth working on?  These are good questions each of us should ask ourselves.

If we want to have lasting relationships we have to be willing to open ourselves up to possible failure and to trust people even when we are not sure we can trust.  How can we break down those walls and connect with others to have lasting friendships?  Building those bridges is hard work but well worth every minute of working on it.    Do you think there would be less lonely miserable people if we reach out and help others by building bridges instead of constructing walls?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject ~ Patti

Judging and Assuming the Worst in Others

Judging and Assuming the Worst in Others

Why do some people look for the worst or negative in others or in situations?  Why do people assume you are judging them?  Why are people so quick to point out their opinions and interrupt you when you are talking?  Or express such harsh points of view that are not even close to the truth instead of listening and assuming the worst.  Why are some so quick to judge instead of being open and listen to the other person to explain the situation?  Why don’t people talk to each other instead of behind the other persons back?  Why has this concept become acceptable?  What happened to compassion, integrity and respect of others?  Why do people feel the need to gossip and create drama everywhere they go?  Why are some people just so mean?  Why is there so much hostility towards one another?

What happen to kindness, patience and truthfulness?

How can we change this behavior in our personal lives and work environment?  I think one person at a time not getting sucked into this conduct by walking away or stating I’m not going to participate in this activity anymore.

Why would we want discord and upheaval in our lives?  We should want to encourage others to follow their dreams and aspirations?  When people are complacent they sometimes become miserable and angry with their situation and take it out on others.  It is time to change this demeanor and be pleasant to each other by listening and having some empathy?  How about it? Let’s live our lives with joy instead of distress! 🙂 ~ Patti

Striving to be HONEST and GENUINE

Striving to be HONEST and GENUINE

Honesty with oneself is one of the biggest challenges towards personal growth. Honesty does not alter with each situation or with the people you hang around with. If you are conducting an honest way of life, you are the same person all the time even when by yourself.

Honesty, integrity and sincerity are not about hurting or offending others. Be tactful, sensitive, and being in the right moment can make an enormous difference when dealing with others. Honesty expresses wisdom and releases you from the expectations of others.

How can being honest with yourself and others change your path in life and encourage personal growth?  Would this help you to pursue what you really want in life?

What is holding you back from being honest to yourself and others?

Day 28 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Life STRUGGLES

Day 28 of 30

Life struggles

We all have life struggles.  How do we keep positive and optimistic when everything around us is falling apart?  That is a good question.  Having a good support system is a necessity.  Being able to talk to a neutral party about the struggles and/or journal about those feelings is the key.  Taking it out on others close to you just makes things worse in the end.  It can cause relationship damage that may not be fixable.  People won’t come around due to the past hurts.  Hurting people hurt others if they don’t stop the cycle of acting out and gossiping.  Hurtful words sting and are remembered.  It can cause major trust issues.  Trust is hard to get back once shattered.  When experiencing ugly emotions journal about them to release the negativity.  Then it is private and not upsetting to those around you.  It only takes one pessimistic mean person to start a ripple and turn a calm peaceful environment into an unfriendly place.  Do you want to be that venomous person that alters the atmosphere around you?  At one time or another we have been this person, it is time to really reflect and STOP the pattern of negativity.  Life is meant to be enjoyable not toxic.  It would be great to see your thoughts and comments on this topic. ~ Patti

Day 27 of 30 day blogging challenge ~ Big Steps

Steps

Day 26

If you have a great ambition, take as big a step as possible in the direction of fulfilling it. ~ Mildred McAfee

Big steps

What is your great ambition?  Is there something you really want to do but have not figure out how to get there.  Setting up goals and a plan of action to accomplish your aspirations will help turn them into reality.  Without a plan there is no inspiration to pursue it and no accountability to put it into action.  Take the big step and start planning out how you will achieve your great ambition.  ~ Patti
