  • The importance of being flexible and open to be able to let go and pivot

Patti Shares:

  • Start focusing on what you want in life
  • Be aware of your emotions and feelings
  • Work on letting go of complaining, worrying, and obsessing over it

Episode 20 – Making Relationships Effortless! – Building Better Relationships at Home and Work with Angela and Patti (Podcast)

In podcast Episode 20 – Making Relationships Effortless! We share examples that stop relationships from being effortless and recommend changing those habits to welcome effortless relationships, whether in the workplace or home life.  To listen to the full podcast episode click below:

Here are some highlight of the episode:

Angela – Patti when I was dancing with a group in the early 2000’s, we used to explore movement that was effortless, and we always knew when things just flowed and we would be amazed.

Then we found we couldn’t repeat that effortlessness because we started thinking about the movement instead of feeling it. We asked what habits as humans do we have that make us drop out of going with the flow. And we discovered the habits of being and thinking that interrupt our heart or force the heart to be something it’s not because you think you should be a certain way.

Angela – What I’ve learnt about effortless relationships, is from the Einstein statement:

“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

Patti – How to Break Bad Work Behaviors:

❤️ Identify the behavior or action

❤️ Make the decision to stop

❤️ Replace the habit with something positive

Angela- Making things effortless is enhanced by not coming from old habits of thinking, because old habits of thought made things repetitive and usually stuck or fixed.  Instead – you want to come at things sideways, ask questions that take a person to a different topic or a different way of looking at a topic.

The Mishaps of the Missing Package

Where do I begin!  I guess at the beginning.  A month ago I ordered a bottle of essential oils.  I was so excited.  The vendor makes the oils herself.  Two weeks go by and no package.  I contacted the seller and she said, you should have gotten it last week.  Let me check into it.

She contacted me back and said the mail delivery company told her they had already delivered it.  She would file a claim for the missing package.  I verified my address with her.

I had my husband politely ask our neighbor, if by chance they may have seen the package delivered.  They had not.

The seller put together another package and added a few extra gifts. Then she sent it through a competitor of the first mail delivery company.  She gave me the tracking number so I could track the package.

Every few hours for a couple of days I would check the tracking of the parcel.  Then it said it was delivered but I had no delivery.  At 12:15 pm it was supposedly delivered and I checked at 12:20 pm. On the website I contacted the package delivery company through IM.

The IM said check around your house and your neighbors.  I went around my house and my close neighbors but there was no package.  I looked in my backyard, no parcel.  I was getting upset, how could this be? I was home and no truck pulled up.

So I called the package delivery company.  The customer service agent said it was delivered.  I said where was it delivered?  I gave him my address and he said that is not the house number we have for delivery.  I said, “what is the house number you have”?  He stated, “I can’t give that information to you”.  I questioned, “why it is my package”.  I replied, “I want the driver to go pick up the package and deliver it to me”.  I gave him my phone number.

Hours go by and then I get a call from another customer service representative and they tell me the sender has to file a complaint and pay $12.00 for them to pick up the package from where it was delivered.  The address they delivered to was the address they were given.  I said, “what address was that”!  This time he gave it to me.  I said, “well I’m going over there to get my package”.  He said, “no the sender has to file for a missing package and pay $12.00”.  I was silent.  I couldn’t believe this.

After he finished his spill I hung up the phone put on my flip flops grabbed my purse and started walking down the street looking for this house number where my package was delivered.

Now, I was a sight to be seen.  I had on a baggy T-Shirt, sweat pants, flip flops, my hair was wild and I was on a mission to get my stuff back.

Usually, I would follow protocols but I didn’t want the sender to go through all that and have to pay $12.00.  So I was off and spitting fire.  After following the numbers I found the house.  My package was sitting there.  I rang the door bell twice.  No answer.  I waited and waited.  Finally, I grabbed my parcel and left.  I hadn’t ever done something so bold before.  I really wanted them to answer the door so I could explain and ask if they received my other package.  Maybe it is a good thing they didn’t answer who knows what may have happen. So I walked home feeling scared and relieved at the same time.

During the time I spoke to each customer service agent, I had PM the seller.  I felt really bad that this was happening and I was over the top upset.  I didn’t want her to have to put any more time, money and energy into this.

When I got home I took a picture of the package with the label.  Then opened the parcel.  She had sent me more than what I ordered.  It was absolutely wonderful.

What did I learn from this mishap?

Sometimes you have to be bold to get what you deserve. I appreciate the customer service representative giving me the delivery address to resolve this situation. Lastly, I ’m very thankful to have received such a wonderful generous package from the seller. 🦋 ~ Patti

Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby Has A Great Work Ethic but Lacks Work-Life Balance

I recently started watching the long-running TV series Midsomer Murders on Netflix.  The main character Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby is very dedicated to his job and capturing the murder(s).  He is excellent at his job.  While on a murder case he is very focused on his work, 24/7 until the murders(s) are caught and charged.

Chief Inspector Barnaby loves his job.  It gives him purpose.  He coaches and trains his sergeants to be dedicated, knowledgeable, reliable and very good detectives.

Trust is something hard to win, easy to lose and never to be taken lightly. ~ Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, Midsomer Murders

In one episode Sargeant Dan Scott was getting rough with a suspect. After the incident and they were both alone in the vehicle Chief Inspector Barnaby told Sgt. Scott, you will not conduct yourself like that ever again under my watch. As a leader, Inspector Barnaby is not afraid to address bad behavior with his employees.

Do you see a lesson in this? ~ Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, Midsomer Murders

Due to Chief Inspector Barnaby’s dedication to his job, he ends up disappointing his wife Joyce continuously.  He is a good man.  He loves his wife, but his job always comes first.  He does have a habit of not showing up when working a murder case.

He will set up dinner dates with his wife while he is still investigating his case.  He may even take her to a restaurant and be watching a suspect. Joyce will get up early to cook him breakfast and usually he rushes out without eating her prepared meal.  They will plan on meeting up for a party or some other occasion and he either arrives late or not at all.

The cleverest lies are those were already inclined to believe. ~ Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, Midsomer Murders

Joyce wants to spend more quality time with her husband, but he is always on the job 24/7.  Does any of this sound familiar?

In one episode, Chief Inspector Barnaby was suppose to meet his wife Joyce at home and go with her to a party.  He didn’t show up and Joyce went without him and had a wonderful time.  He was locked in a cellar with Sgt. Scott all night and she didn’t even realize he didn’t come home.  I think it surprised him that she wasn’t even worried about him.

In another episode, Joyce and his daughter Cully wanted to purchase a houseboat. Thinking a houseboat would create more family time together.  The houseboat Joyce and Cully were looking at turned out to be the killers.  No houseboat was purchased.

In another episode, Joyce wanted Chief Inspector Barnaby to start planning for his retirement and to become a mystery writer.  She thought he would make more money and be around more.  It wasn’t Chief Inspector Barnaby’s idea of retirement after the murder investigation.

What now? I’m going to have my cake and eat it.~ Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, Midsomer Murders

In the TV show Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby is considered a family man. When he does arrive home for dinner, he is usually called out again.

How does his marriage survive?  No work-life balance here!

Of course, he is a fictional character.

Do you think this is why he is still in a relationship?
