Last year I was one of fourteen coaches accepted to write a chapter in a book called Coaching Perspectives IV. It was an honor and privilege to write a chapter. I learned so much from the process and really went out of my comfort zone. Being a coach is encouraging others to reach their greatest potential and get out of their comfort zone to achieve it. When you see them accomplishing their purpose with confidence it bring such a smile to my face and joy in my heart. Being a leader to your employees and seeing them accomplish their goals is similar. Having pride watching them conquer their goals and learning new things. Seeing them improving, growing with knowledge and confidence is so satisfying as a supervisor or manager.
This week a former employee of mine interviewed me for her last class assignment which was to interview a Leader. She stated that I exemplify leadership to her. Talk about a compliment. I was very flattered that she picked me to interview. This really got me thinking about the chapter I wrote “Coaching for Leadership”. One of the sections in the chapter is called “What is a Leader?’

What is a Leader?
A leader is someone who is there for her staff. A leader listens with compassion and understanding, and assists whenever possible. She comes up with workplace solutions and evaluates how her decisions affect others. She is someone willing to stand out, stand up, and be part of the solutions that help to achieve mutual goals. At times, a leader may be a mentor or a coach. She knows that being a leader can be demanding and challenging job. Good leaders learn from their mistakes.
