Episode 95 – What Healthy Support Actually Looks Like in Teams and in Families

Many of us capable, reliable, and caring people find ourselves becoming the “go-to” person.

Click to watch or listen to the podcast episode.

In this Building Better Relationships at Home and Work with Angela and Patti Podcast in Episode 95, we explore the difference between helping and over-functioning and how to support others without taking over.

At work, that might look like finishing a task for someone because it feels faster.
At home, it might mean solving a problem for someone you love to make things easier for them.

Most of us genuinely want to be supportive. We want to help the people we care about. We want to make things easier for our team, our family, or our friends. And often we step in because we see a problem and we know we can fix it.

But sometimes support can quietly turn into something else.

It can turn into carrying more than our share.
It can turn into stepping in too quickly.
And sometimes, without meaning to, it can even prevent someone else from growing.

As you think about support in your own life, you might reflect on a few questions:

• When do I tend to step in quickly to help?
• What signals show up in my body when I feel responsible for solving something?
• What might change if I paused and asked what kind of support is actually needed?

These small moments of awareness can help us create support that builds confidence rather than dependency.

Sometimes, a thoughtful conversation and a fresh perspective can open the door to meaningful change.

Episode 92 – How To Speak Up When You’re Scared Of A Fallout

Have you ever stayed quiet to avoid a conflict, but later felt frustrated that you didn’t speak up?

Watch on YouTube:

Listen on Spotify:

Many people fear a fallout, the emotional reaction, backlash, or relationship tension that may follow honest communication.

In this episode, Angela and Patti explore how to find your voice even when that fear rises.

What Is a Fallout?

A fallout is the emotional or relational aftermath when communication leads to:

  • Hurt feelings
  • Misunderstanding
  • Anger or withdrawal
  • Blame or retaliation
  • Changes in trust or connection

Avoiding hard conversations can create resentment and emotional distance.

Silence can feel like the safest option until it starts to hurt.

The best way to prevent a fallout is to communicate early and with empathy.

By learning to communicate early, set boundaries, and resolve concerns with confidence before resentment and conflict build, this can help prevent fallout.

Reflection Question:

What small conversation have I been avoiding that would help prevent bigger conflicts later?

How to Get Out of a Rut: Simple Shifts to Feel Inspired Again

We’ve all experienced moments when life feels very heavy and our motivation is lacking. It’s a signal that something needs to shift.

To watch the full video on YouTube: How to Get Out of a Rut.

Recently, someone made a harsh comment that sent me into a spiral of self-doubt. For a few days, I felt unmotivated and creatively blocked, like I couldn’t move forward.

Eventually, I paused and reflected: Who am I really doing this for?

The answer became clear for me; it’s for all of you who are seeking encouragement and calm in the chaos of life.

When we’re in a rut, it’s tempting to think we need a complete overhaul at once. However, it’s often the small changes that make the most difference. Ruts thrive on sameness, so anything new, even small, helps.

Journaling is one of the most powerful ways to gain clarity. It helps you see patterns, release emotions, and focus on what truly matters.

Reflect on this question:

🖋️ What shift will I make today to inspire me and get me out of this rut?

Affirmation: I trust that ruts are temporary, and I have the strength to move forward.

You may be surprised how one thought can begin to create change, and your outlook shifts from feeling demotivated to inspired.

If you’re ready to rediscover clarity, balance, and purpose, explore my Coaching and Reiki services.

We all want to live our lives to the fullest. But sometimes, we get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life that we forget to take the time for ourselves. It’s easy to let distractions take over, whether work, stress, or getting lost in the never-ending to-do lists.

Feeling Stuck in a Dead-End Job?

How do you know when you are in a dead-end job?

I have spoken to a lot of people who feel stuck in a dead-end job. When Sunday comes around, they dread thinking about going to work the next morning. On Monday mornings, they hit the snooze button multiple times and force themselves out of bed. They push themselves with positive affirmations or the opposite with “I hate my job” self-talk on the way to work.

🦋 Do you feel like you could do your job in your sleep?

🦋 Are there no advancement opportunities where you work?

🦋 Do you feel hateful and resentful when you walk through your workplace?

🦋 Do you get any acknowledgment for a job well done?

Well, here are some questions below to ask yourself. Answer them with the first reaction you have.

🦋 Am I learning any new aspects in my position?

🦋 Are my job duties challenging to me?

🦋 Do I enjoy going to work every day?

🦋 Am I motivated and strive to increase my productivity level?

🦋 Do I feel I am making a difference?

🦋 Are my coworkers positive at work?

🦋 Am I positive at work?

If you answered no to these questions, you might be feeling stuck in a dead-end job.

What are some options to improve my career situation?

Create a Career Journal to track your career goals, action steps, certifications, accomplishments, achievements, and references all in one area.

Making or adding to your career journal is a great way to be organized and refocus on your career path.

What’s in a Career Journal:

  • Career goals and ideas
  • Keep track of career progress
  • Lessons learned
  • Coaching strategies
  • Advice from mentors
  • A private place to vent career disappointments
  • Keep positive affirmations and quotes
  • Gain a new perspective
  • Resume, cover letters, interview tips, interview questions, thank you notes, recommendations, references, and certifications
  • Mission statement and values
  • Develop a career action plan
  • Keep motivated and inspired
  • To celebrate the small successes

How to Get Started:

  • Get a large binder; put all your career paperwork and ideas into it
  • Then decide if you want to put all your information into a computer document, on-line journal, a book journal, or a binder
  • Organize by categories
  • Add to your career journal regularly
  • Please keep it in a secure place

Self-Reflection Questions for Career Journal:

  • What did I learn?
  • What did I accomplish?
  • Did I receive any compliments? If so, what was it, and who said it?
  • How did I make a difference?
  • Did I have any setbacks, and how did it affect me?
  • How can I change my situation and get new career opportunities?
  • Where should I start networking to meet new people and look for better job opportunities?

What to consider:

Should I stay at my current employment or move on?

Make a list of “why to stay” and “why to go.” Be upfront and honest. No holding back from the truth of the matter!

  1. What’s keeping me here?
  2. Are there other options?
  3. If, so what are they?
  • A Transfer within the company?
  • Start job hunting?
  • Hire a career coach?
  • Go back to school and learn something new?
  • Retirement?

After making and reviewing the list to “stay or go.” What did this list tell you?

Take Away:

Don’t stay in a job where there is no opportunity for advancement. Leap of faith and try something different. You will have a career purpose with meaning again. Whatever decision you make to either stay or go, having a career journal will keep you organized and focused on your career goals and prepare you for the next career opportunity. ~ Patti
