Bad Leadership Styles Series

Bad Leadership Styles Series

Thank you for joining me with the Bad Leadership Styles series. I know as a leader, I have been all of these at one point or another. Recognizing it and realizing there are going to be bad days and we are going to mess up.

Breathe, pause, pray about it, then regroup and apologize when needed. Forgive and let go.

Mistakes and bad experiences help us grow to become better leaders. My intention for this series is to give you insight and wisdom on your own personal leadership journey.

A truly great Boss is hard to find, difficult to part with and impossible to forget!  ~ unknown

I hope this series inspired you to become a great boss. ~ Patti

September is National Self-Care Awareness Month

This month is National Self-Care Awareness Month.  Why is self-care so important?  So many of us work without ceasing.  Burn-out and overwhelm is becoming an epidemic.  Work-Life balance is a must to keep our sanity.  Acknowledging awareness of preventing burn-out is the key to keeping your life in harmony.

What one thing can you do each day for a little self-care this month?

Here is a list of ideas to get you started:

  1. Eat a healthy meal
  2. Drink plenty of water
  3. Sleep for 7-10 hours
  4. Exercise for at least 20 minutes
  5. Get a medical and/or dental check up
  6. Take 5 to 10 minutes to to pray or mediate
  7. Listen to relaxing music
  8. Take 5 minutes to color
  9. Write in your journal
  10. Take 30 minutes to be creative
  11. Go on a weekend vacation
  12. Take a hike or walk
  13. Read a book or magazine
  14. Practice gratitude
  15. Spend quality time with family and friends
  16. Recite Affirmations
  17. Knowledge and thank others
  18. Watch the sunrise or sunset
  19. Watch your favorite TV show
  20. Go to the movies
  21. Go to a yoga class
  22. Snuggle with your pet
  23. Take a nap
  24. Have a big cup of tea or coffee and savor it
  25. Get a massage
  26. Play a musical instrument
  27. Take a bath or long shower
  28. Turn on some music and dance
  29. Do a cross word puzzle or word search
  30. Buy some flowers, smell them and admire them throughout the day

The best gift in life is taking care of yourself and enjoy it!  Taking care of yourself isn’t being selfish it is crucial.  My hope is this blog post will encourage you to take some “me time” throughout this month and do daily self-care while having a little fun taking care of you! ~ Patti 🙂

Lifescaping ~ What is holding you back in life?

What is Lifescaping?

My definition of Lifescaping is figuring out what you want to escape from and removing it from your life, as a result, creating balance and harmony in your life.

Collins English Dictionary definition of Lifescape –
A narrative that details the intersection of events in an individual’s agency, emotions, health, socio-economic circumstance, cultural norms, and behaviors over their lifespan.

Glosbe English Dictionary definition of Lifescape –
Urban agriculture improves city residents’ lifescape.  The elements of that model include the interdependence of the landscape and lifescape, full participation of intended beneficiaries, values-based planning, and “passing on the gift.”

What is holding you back?
Figuring out what is holding you back from enjoying your life is key.  Being brave and confronting it will end the constant worry, anxiety and unhappiness in your daily life.

What’s in your life you need to remove or change to create harmony in your life?

Make a list of the things that you want to remove from your life.

Here are some examples:

  • A toxic friend
  • A hostile workplace
  • A verbally abusive partner
  • A controlling family member
  • A destructive behavior

The big question is “What do you want in Life?”

Make a list of things you want, to create harmony and balance in your life.

Here are some examples:

  • Positive Encouraging Friends
  • A Motivating Career
  • A Peaceful Home
  • A Happy Loving Family
  • Good Health
  • Some Fun and Adventure
  • A Healthy Lifestyle

What action steps will you take to change your life for the better?

Once you start putting the action steps into motion.  You will feel the shift from being trapped to a sense of peace and freedom.

What are you waiting for?

Comments are always welcome and please share this post with your colleagues, friends, and family on your social networks!  Sharing is caring.

The Floating Experience for Work/Life Balance

The Floating Experience for Work/Life Balance

One of my friends told me about floating a couple of years ago and how it can help relieve stress.  I tried it out and really saw the change in my body after the float.  I wish I did it more often and I am guilty of not making it a priority when I really should.  I usually wait until my body is in knots instead of a monthly or every other week schedule.  I went a few days ago and after the float, I was sitting in the relaxing area talking to one of the employees and said to her I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner, it sure does make a difference.  She laughed and said she automatically schedules her times because if she doesn’t it won’t happen.  I said, the world would be a happier place if everyone would float more and relax.  She smiled.  I commented back, I probably should do automatic scheduling too and make it more of a priority in my life.  After the float, I felt so refreshed, renewed and at peace.  My skin felt soft and my muscles much more relaxed.

What is floating?

It is laying down (floating) in a tub or pod of epsom salt water with ear plugs in your ears.

Why float?

One hour of resting the mind in the salt has all kinds of physical benefits:

*Increases Blood Circulation

*Pain Management

*Increased Immune System Functioning

*Diminishes the Effect of Jet Lag

*Reduce Lactic Acid Build-Up

What to do while floating?

*Meditation

*Breathing Techniques to Relax

*Self-Reflection

*Spend Time in Prayer

*Listen to the Calming Music

*Do Nothing, just Enjoy the Peace, Quiet and Alone Time

Different ways to enjoy the experience:

*Lights on

*Lights off

*Relaxing music on

*Relaxing music off

*Lid closed

*Lid open

I personally like the music on with the lid closed and the blue lights on, however sometimes I turn the lights off.

My Takeaway:

For me the experience is relaxing and helps me get balanced.  It calms my spirit and releases the build-up of stress in my body by spending time alone through meditation, silence and prayer.  I know I should do it more often before my body turns into knots.  My personal goal is to start floating at least once a month.  How about you?  Is this something you would be willing to try?

Reflection Questions:

Do you like spending time alone?

Have you ever tried floating? Yes or No

If you have, what was your experience? Did you Like it or Not Liked it and why?
