Day 5 of 5 Day Power of Positivity Challenge

Welcome to Day 5 of the 5 Day

Power of Positivity Challenge.

Today’s challenge is to Compliment instead of Gossip.

I was listening to the Happier Podcast with Gretchen Rubin awhile back and they were talking about using the practice of reverse gossip.  This means when someone is gossiping about another person to you.  Say something nice about the person being gossiped about.  The gossiper usually stops talking about that person.  I have tried this technique a few times and it really has worked.

A compliment is a precious gift, so why aren’t we giving them out more?

Offering a sincere compliment makes people feel valued and accepted.  Awareness of the good in others helps us to think more positive.  Not getting sucked into gossip and the courage to walk away from it can reflect a lot about someone’s character.  If more people said nice things about each other instead of the dreadful, this world would be a much happier place.  Walk away from hurtful mean words.  Most gossip isn’t true anyway and it causes anguish to the person who is being gossiped about.  No good comes from gossip.  A compliment can change someone’s day from feeling very low to experiencing worthiness.  When receiving a compliment, listen, smile and then say thank you.

When someone gives you a compliment, believe them. ~ Molly Simms

The Day 5 Challenge:

  • Give at least one compliment each day to someone.  Be genuine and honest with your compliment.  Some examples: Write a note, letter or send a text to someone and tell them what they mean to you or thank them in person for something nice they did.
  • Use the technique of reverse gossip and/or walk away from the conversation.

A compliment is verbal sunshine! ☀️~ Robert Orben

We all have negative emotions and it’s okay.  We can’t be positive every moment of the day, that is literally impossible.  Bad stuff happens.  Even upbeat happy fun loving people aren’t feeling it all the time.  You can strive to be a good person and give a kind compliment.  You may never know what that nice gesture meant to someone and how it could brighten their day for the better. ☀️ ~ Patti

How about making someone’s day today by giving them a compliment! 🙂

The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer everybody else up! ~ Mark Twain

Thank you for spending time with me during this 5 Day challenge.  My wish for you is that these daily challenges inspired more positivity within your life and shined out to those around you! ☀️

Day 3 of 5 Day Power of Positivity Challenge

Welcome to Day 3 of the 5 Day

Power of Positivity Challenge.

Today’s challenge is about unplugging from the negative and replugging into the positive.

Everywhere we go; we can watch, read or interact with whatever we want, using wifi, internet, cell phones, laptops and apps.  The negative is constantly hammering our environment.

What does unplugging from negative and replugging into positive mean?

When making a few changes with what you watch, listen to, read and how you interact with others by removing the negative influences. This can transform the mind from cynical notions to favorable intentions.

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results. ~ Willie Nelson

A positive mind gives you encouraging thoughts, which then creates an amazing life.

How do you unplug from the negative and replug into the positive?

  • Each day turn off all the electronics for at least a half hour and spend some quality time with yourself (me-time) or with others (spouse, family or friends)
  • Trade watching the news and change it up with listening to some soft uplifting music or an inspiring podcast
  • Recite daily positive affirmations

Sometimes you have to disconnect to stay connected. Remember the old days when you had eye contact during a conversation? When everyone wasn’t looking down at a device in their hands? We’ve become so focused on that tiny screen that we forget the big picture, the people right in front of us. ~ Regina Brett

Day 3 challenge is to turn off all the electronics for at least a half each day.  Remove negative influences and replace them with inspiring ones.  Recite daily affirmations to encourage a positive outlook.

Share your experiences in the “leave a reply” below. I would love to see your comments and maybe it will inspire others as well! ❤️

Today’s Positive Affirmations:

I am free from negativity and I surround myself with positivity!

I choose to schedule time to unplug each day!

Day 2 of 5 Day Power of Positivity Challenge

Welcome to Day 2 of the 5 Day

Power of Positivity Challenge.

The Practice of Gratitude Activities for Day 2 ~ Power of Positivity Challenge

Today’s challenge is about discovering gratitude.  When we are grateful for what we have, we display positivity.  Feelings of gratefulness radiates outwardly and creates more positivity within us.  It is like an echo. What we shout out comes right back.

When one has a grateful heart, life is so beautiful! ~ Roy T Bennett

What do you appreciate in your life?

Gratitude is powerful.  People who are thankful have more positivity in life.  They feel happy, joyful and are much more compassionate towards others. The more you see your blessings. The more blessings you find.

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns.  I am thankful that thorns have roses. ~ Alphonse Karr.

Some people could be given an entire field of roses and only see the thorns in it.  Others could be given a single weed and only see the wildflower in it.  Perception is a key component to gratitude.  And gratitude is a key component to joy. ~ Amy Weatherly

Which person are you?

What is your inner-voice saying to you?  Identify and recognize those feelings.  When negative thoughts or emotions enter your mind.  You have a choice to let them in or redirect those thoughts.  Are those whispers good for the soul?

Having a grateful perspective will become a beautiful reflection of you.  An expression of  joy, happiness and love.  Be so happy that when others look at you, they become happy too. Life is good; when you open your eyes and actually see it.

What do you see?

Day 2 challenge is to make a gratitude journal (notebook), and write at least one sentence each day of what you appreciate in your life.

Today’s Positive Affirmation:
Gratitude creates positivity!

Share your gratitude experiences in the “leave a reply” below. I would love to see your expressions of gratitude and maybe it will inspire others as well! ❤️

The Signs of a Workplace Bully Leader!

The Signs of a Workplace Bully Leader

Bullying in the workplace has become an important topic in today’s world of leadership. Many of us have experienced workplace bullying during some time in our careers.

Today, I am going to discuss the warning signs of Workplace Bully Leaders to increase awareness.

What is Workplace Bullying?

According to Wikipedia  Workplace bullying is a persistent mistreatment pattern from others in the workplace that causes either physical or emotional harm. It can include such tactics as verbal, nonverbal, psychological, physical abuse, and humiliation. This type of workplace aggression is particularly difficult because, unlike the typical school bully, workplace bullies often operate within the established rules and policies of their organization and their society. In the majority of cases, bullying in the workplace is reported as having been by someone who has authority over their victim. However, bullies can also be peers, and occasionally subordinates.

Signs of a Possible Workplace Bully Leaders:

  • Demeaning, disrespectful, and devaluing employees capabilities
  • Public ridicule, sarcastic, insults, name-calling, threats, and intimidation
  • Targeting and creating social isolation with staff
  • Blaming, lying, gossiping, spreading rumors and whispering
  • Failing to give credit to employees for their work
  • Overloading targeted employee with a huge workload
  • Micro-Manages and commands respect without earning it
  • A know it all

Bully leaders create isolation and silo work environments. They divide staff and departments to keep control.

Why don’t people speak up? Employees are afraid of losing their jobs.

Bullying by leadership has several physical and behavioral health issues for the targeted employees.

Warning Signs of an Employee Being Bullied:

  • Becomes less socially active or confident
  • Appears scared, stressed, anxious or depressed
  • Calling out sick more frequently than normal
  • Physical signs of tension such as headaches, backaches, not sleeping well, and suicidal thoughts

If bullying is unaddressed, the aggression and unresolved conflicts will continue to escalate. When not dealt with, it causes adverse effects on the targeted workers – maybe even psychological, financial and physical burdens.

The Results to the Employers:

  • High Turnover and Absenteeism
  • Low Productivity
  • Lack of Creativity
  • Legal Costs
  • Damaged Reputation

If you recognize Workplace Bully Leaders in your organization or within yourself:

Here are a few tips to encourage behavioral change for this type of leadership style.

  • Sit down with them and discuss the behavior you have observed
  • Ask questions, give feedback on their management style and suggestions on how to improve engagement with staff
  • Set a zero-tolerance approach to workplace bullying
  • Build trust and open-door policies to discuss bullying
  • Schedule leadership training courses, primarily on bullying – Udemy.com
  • Schedule emotional intelligent courses – Udemy.com
  • Schedule interpersonal communication courses – Udemy.com
  • Schedule conflict resolution courses – Udemy.com
  • Schedule constructive criticism courses – Udemy.com
  • Read John C. Maxwell Relationships 101 book
  • Get them a mentor who is a successful leader
  • Hire a leadership coach to help them succeed

Takeaway:

Bullying promotes an atmosphere of fear, vulnerability, anxiousness, and uncertainty. Awareness is the key to change. Develop a zero-tolerance workplace accompanied by training, coaching, and mentoring to display compassion, empathy, safety, and trust.

Have you had a Workplace Bully as a Boss?

If yes, How did they make you feel?

How did you overcome it?

Answering these questions above and sharing your experiences may help someone else dealing with a workplace bully.

Lifescaping ~ What is holding you back in life?

The Benefits of Adult Coloring – Why Do It?

I purchased my first Adult Coloring Book a few years ago. At this present time, I have a variety of coloring books, markers, and pencils. I have received coloring books as gifts, and I have given coloring books as gifts as well. I take coloring books on camping trips and weekend getaways. Coloring, for me, is a way to relax and let go.

On one camping trip, my friends and I spent hours coloring inside my camper while the rain came pouring down. We shared our life challenges and our life aspirations. It was a great way to reconnect with each other. We each had different coloring styles, which made each page unique and different.

Be gentle with yourself; you can’t fail at self-care. ~ Dr. Samantha, Naturopathic Physician

Benefits of Adult Coloring

  1. Coloring is considered therapeutic to reduce anxiety, relieve stress, and alters bad moods.
  2. Coloring is similar to meditating. It increases focus and shifts our thoughts to the present moment.
  3. Coloring applies both hemispheres of the brain, the right and left, simulating the brain responsible for creativity and logic. From what I have read, some physicians recommend coloring for their Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients.
  4. Coloring replaces negative thinking as a distraction.
  5. Coloring five minutes before bedtime has been reported to help some people sleep better because of its calming effects.
  6. Social group coloring evaluates relaxation and the joy of spending time with others.
  7. When coloring, we are unplugged from technology, which engages in self-care “me time.”
  8. Coloring creates boundaries by staying in the lines and evokes metaphorical boundaries in our personal lives.

There is even a National Coloring Day which is August 2nd. Adult coloring is good for the soul. How about taking a few minutes each day before going to bed to color and see if it changes your perspective on life. 🙂 ~ Patti

How Does Coaching Change Lives?

May is my favorite month!

It is springtime, International Coaching Week and so much more.  Coaching has such a powerful and unique way of changing lives for the better.

International Coaching Week (ICW) is May 7-13, 2018

What is International Coaching Week?

International Coaching Week (ICW) is an annual week-long global celebration of the coaching profession, which the International Coaching Federal (ICF) local chapters and members spread the word about coaching and how coaching changes lives.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is client focused.  The coach recognizes each client is a unique individual with the ability to determine their own priorities, goals, and action steps towards what they truly want in life.  The coach assists the client through active listening, asking questions, and affirming the client’s accountability.

How Does Coaching Change Lives?

Recently, I asked one of my client’s the following questions:

What has been your experience working with me as your coach?

Answer:  You are firm, when I am not.  You are able to clarify where I may not be standing up for myself – or what I am here to do.  You are fair, and see what is the fair or appropriate thing to do in situations that involved partnership, teams and relationships with others.  You simplify what I am looking for, so I don’t waste time, you help me get straight to the point.

It actually inspires me to do good, be a better person, be INVESTED in people, be caring, be passionate AND be connected to those I work with.  Think about myself and my needs AND think about the needs of others, while making sure I don’t sacrifice my needs.  A lot of care. You make me feel I’m worthwhile, valuable and you make me feel that others are worthwhile and valuable, and show or support me to support the value in others.

How do you think my coaching has helped you become a better leader?

Answer:  By being fearless to express my needs.  In simple terms, so even if I have emotions about expressing my needs.  I still express them.  Plus clarifying the benefits of expressing my needs to the best outcome for all involved.  It is important to understand what coaching means and why it can be essential to your life in and out of the office.

What do you think?  Are you ready to learn more about the coaching experience?

Have you experienced coaching?  If so, feel free to share about your coaching experiences.

Comments are always welcome and please share this post with your colleagues, friends, family and on your social networks!
